What To Think About When Getting A Quote For Motorcycle Car Insurance

Posted on

If you have a car and a motorcycle, your car insurance isn't going to cover your motorcycle, which means you need to have separate insurance for the both of them. You may get your motorcycle insurance through the same place you get your car insurance, but you should get quotes to see which insurance will best fit within your budget and give you the coverage that you need. As with your car, your state requires you to have motorcycle insurance, and if you don't have it and you get caught not having it, you may have to deal with some heavy consequences. So, what should you think about when getting a motorcycle insurance quote?

Comprehensive vs. Liability

One of the things you need to think about is whether you want to get comprehensive or just liability. Liability is the bare minimum insurance required in most states. It covers the damage and injuries that others may have sustained in your accident, but not yours. If your insurance doesn't cover everything for the other party, you may have to pay out of pocket. On the other hand, comprehensive insurance covers everything. That can include things like vandalism or your motorcycle being stolen. If you are in an accident, comprehensive insurance will cover injuries to you and damage to your bike as well as replacement costs if your motorcycle is totaled.

Custom Parts and Equipment

Customizing your bike can make it your own, and it can be really expensive. Some of those customized parts have to be created specifically for your bikes and are one of a kind. In order to replace them, you may have to wait for the person who made them to have the space to make new parts. You can get specific coverage for those parts as an additional rider to your insurance. Still, if you have spent a lot of money customizing your bike, you want to make sure that you have coverage for that so that you can afford to replace them if your motorcycle is damaged or destroyed.

If you have a motorcycle, you need to have insurance. You can't just stick it on your car insurance policy; you need to have a policy specifically for your bike. Contact some insurance companies to get a quote for your insurance. When you get the quote, you need to consider some things, including what extras you may need for your situation.
